A Very Happy Easter To You and Yours!

Hope You Have A Hippity-Hoppity Easter!

Yes, it's a bad pun, I know, but I just couldn't resist :) The two things I think most about when I hear "Easter" are flowered, beribboned Easter Bonnets and Easter Bunnies, which the vintage postcard above demonstrates nicely (with the addition of that perennial favourite, the Cute Easter Chicks). I don't know why I think of Easter Bonnets, as I have never once worn a Bonnet in my life, Easter or otherwise.

It's probably the influence of the old Irving Berlin "Easter Parade" movie and its hit song,  which I confess I have only ever watched in the past to see the costumes. (By the way, did you know that the inspiration was the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival in NYC which originated in the late 1880's?! Some 2012 photos here).

But I like to believe it is because of my eternal fascination with hats of every kind, which is a most unfortunate obsession to have since I lack the certain something it takes to wear one successfully. There are People Who Can Wear Hats and there are People Who Cannot Wear Hats, and I am firmly in the latter category. My Grandma, now, there's a lady who can wear a hat! Somehow I didn't inherit that gene. *sigh*

But no matter, for there are Easter Bunnies! My very favourite sort, of course, are the chocolate type :) My family likes to snap off the ears and eat them first - very savage, aren't we? LOL. But I have a very handsome bunny of the inedible variety to show you this year. My Stitchy Guru Mother made him out of scraps (which is why he's mint green) after we had a debate about the essential nature of Bunnies.

Mom: "What's the essence of a bunny? Ears?"

Me: "Ears, for sure. But also a fluffy tail."

Mom: "No, they don't need a tail."

Me: "Do too! They need a fluffy tail more than they need arms!!"

So meet Mr. Bunny (I have yet to name him but hope to do so soon):

He's just a trifle taller than my thumb! His body and ears are knitted and his cute little feet that let him stand up on his own are crocheted. "But it can't be a he - it has a pink bow!", you might say. To which my defense is that he's, um, fashion-forward? I don't know. But my new bunny friend seems very much a "he" to me, so a "he" he shall be, right? Right ;) You might think he's cute now. But just wait for it ----

FLOOF!!!! Just look at that tail! Cute explosion!!! Tell me the truth - you never noticed he didn't have any arms, did you?! Huh?! Did you?!!! I know I sure didn't.

Ergo, I win. Bunnies Must Have Fluffy, Floofy, Floomfy Tails. I rest my case :)

Any suggestions as to what I should name this little fellow?

Happy Easter to you too! What an adorable little bunny your mom made. And you're right, when I first looked at the pic I didn't notice that he didn't have any arms. Bubbles? Might sound a bit girly though lol.

Bunnies definitely need fluffy tails!! He is so cute! Given he is green he could be "Kermt" but that's just not a cute enough name, so to be boring and traditional I will suggest "Fluffy" :)
Happy Easter

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments! Hope everyone had a great holiday :) Mom was a little bit mortified that I posted the bunny up, and I should mention he was a joke whipped up in like fifteen minutes and not meant to be kept ;)

However - since I love him, Kermit-green ears and all!, I've taken all your suggestions, tossed them about, and have decided to call him Mr. B. Floofy (which rhymes with "goofy", which is fitting don't you think? LOL)! Thanks for the help :)

Love Mr. B. Floofy lol! Even if he was meant to be a joke, he turned out adorable! Can't believe she made him in 15 minutes!!

@ Karen: Ha! Thanks so much, this made me smile :) I may have been slightly exaggerating (who, me? LOL) but Mom is crazy fast with her knitting needles, and Mr. B. Floofy certainly took no more than half an hour, tops. And the amazing thing is that when she hits her stride she doesn't even look at her hands at all, actually prefers to watch tv! You should see the things she does when she's really trying ;)

Your mom is clearly one of those people that I'm very envious of lol. 30 mins is crazy fast too! I'd still be sitting and trying to figure out how to do it for at least 2 hours lol. If she would let you, you should post some pics.

@ Karen: 2 hours?! Ha, I'd take DAYS, LOL :)

Will see about the photos ;)

Well, you kept this post quiet didn't you? I feel terribly naughty that it's taken me until now to discover it, so hope I can be forgiven.

I don't think I've ever seen Easter Parade, but I have a vague recollection of it being sang at school, and enlisting my mother's help to make an Easter bonnet.

I don't actually believe that you cannot wear hats, I think it's just a case of finding the right style and size of hat.

Mr B Floofy is adorable, and I'm seriously impressed with the speed that your stitchy-guru mother made him, AND that she has the ability to knit without looking at what she's doing!

I would agree that bunnies need ears and fluffy, floofy, floomfy tails. As for arms, you're spot on about that too. I didn't notice there weren't any until you mentioned it in your wonderful post.

@ CS: Well, *I* feel terribly badly that it's taken so long for me to respond to your comment, so we're even, LOL :) Thank you very much for the lovely compliments! Mr. B. Floofy had proven himself to be quite a hit, I'm happy you like him too ;)
